The Africa Earth Observation (EO) Challenge is an annually run open innovation challenge that has been sourcing novel space technologies since 2016. This year’s challenge is hosted by ZASPACE and SANSA, in partnership with the Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability (RIIS), Digital Earth Africa (DEA), Amazon Web Services (AWS), GEN Space and Maxar. The aim of this challenge is to drive entrepreneurial activity in the African space industry and promote awareness of the value of earth observation data (EOD) across the continent and in multiple sectors such as water and food security, mining, logistics, insurance, and many more.
We are looking to answer two questions during this challenge: (1) how we can enhance and improve various industries, such as smart cities, logistics, and agriculture through the innovative application of Earth Observation Data (EOD), and (2) how we can do this through utilising Big Data analytics techniques, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and cloud computing?
The challenge is seeking businesses in any and all industries, across the African continent, that are at seed stage, early development or investor-ready, and apply earth observation data in their solutions.
There is a range of prizes to be won, including access to earth observation data packages worth up to $12,000 from Maxar, AWS Activate Credits to the value of $10,000 and online incubation and virtual mentorship, from GEN Space, AWS and DEA, to the value of $24,000.
Deadline for submissions: MIDNIGHT, 26 SEPTEMBER 2021
